Comment from Cllr. Marilyn Whitehead 20/08/2008
"It is clear from the number of people who signed the recent petition that almost every person eligible to vote in this area is against the Boundary Commission's proposals. Therefore it would follow that it is the settled will of the people of Lundin Links and Largo to remain in North East Fife. I support them in their campaign."
Comment from Steve Wood, Eden Cottage, Upper Largo
"As a long term resident in Upper Largo I fully support your campaign. We should try to preserve the strengths of our community and I am convinced that our interests are best served by being considered as part of North East fife, not as part of mid Fife. With the proposed boundary changes I strongly believe we would lose our democratic voice , which neither serve us well or the proposed new electorate for mid Fife. We are constantly told that we are ’going through a consultation phase’ on issue after issue. On this issue we have been perfectly clear. We don’t want this change. If our views are not respected or listened to then I am more than confused by what democracy is supposed to mean, and what the objectives of consultation are."
Comment from Hugh Scott
"The Largo area has a long history as a part of the East Neuk and should not be changed for whatever reasons, political or otherwise. I like being part of this area and have no desire to to see Largo or Lundin Links become part of another area outwith North East Fife and being swallowed by Methil, Leven, Glenrothes etc.
Comment from Alan Elliot
"This is a rural area and it has nothing in common with a conurbation such as Glenrothes. Largo ought to remain in rural East Fife to which it belongs."
Comment from Pat Ross
"We too would like to retain the historical geogrphical and cultural links with rural North East Fife where we belong. The boundaries should take more into account than just numbers."
Comment from Stanley and Margaret Cleeton
"We heartily support your efforts to retain Lundin Links within the East Fife Constituancy!!!"
Comment from Dr. and Mrs Evans:
"My feelings on this issue are that there is a distinct change in geography and character between Leven and Lundin Links. West of this point is a traditional rural area with strong tourism centred on the towns of Cupar and St Andrews. To the east is the area of old mining towns and harbours which has suffered in the last 50 years and is now, slowly, being regenerated. The needs of these two areas are very different. To maintain and promote the tourism, agriculture and St Andrews University (a major employer in the area) in the NE Fife area requires policies of conservation and careful nurturing. Quite distinctly the Mid Fife constituency needs a steady programme of development to capitalise on the opportunities for regeneration. The representatives for the areas must reflect this and this is what has happened in the voting patterns over the years. In this context the Largo area has always voted in line with NE Fife because it wants the same type of representation. Inevitably the parliamentary boundaries influence the division of the region for planning purposes and the changes being proposed will re-enforce moves to place the Largo are in Mid Fife. The same arguments outlined above apply even more to the planning process. My view is that although the NE Fife constituency is now above the average size the boundary should not be moved since the needs of the community and the geography outweigh the desire for uniformity of electorate size. In addition the St Andrews population is quite fluid with students resident during the winter and rented property owners or tourists in the summer. This may distort the electoral arithmetic somewhat."
